He took a piece of candy and placed it between my lips. I bit it, and he ate the rest of it. We had just had the most intense sex sprawled across shipping boxes, and still, I was mesmerized by the way he licked the sugar of the candy off his finger. My heart was still hammering like when I used to go running. The blood was pumping faster than usual throughout my body and I could feel the warmth of it flooding my arms and legs. I felt more alive than I had in weeks.

“Did I say anything else the other night? Anything embarrassing, I mean?”

His eyes widened and he smiled. He looked almost as flushed as I was, his cheeks slightly red. We sat on the floor, leaning against the boxes, half dressed.

“You said I was cute with my perpetual frown.”

“Oh, fuck! Did I really say that?”

He nodded, his lips curled into a smile.

“Well, I can’t really take that back. It’s the truth. I like your perpetual frown,” I said, leaning closer, raising my index finger to trace his forehead lines.

He closed his eyes and sighed. His shoulder sunk slightly, and it felt like he was just relaxing next to me. I liked that. When I was around him, I always felt like he was the one taking care of me, but tonight we had taken care of each other. We had given each other what we needed. He leaned on my shoulder. I liked that he was letting go in my arms. I wondered if he was going to start opening up.
